Is this a good idea for a fantasy story?
Okay, I’m 14-years-old and I’m going to write a novel (for funzies). So I was thinking about this plot line:
The thyme for this book will be emotion isolation (between Cora and the world), sexual tension (Cora and Jason) and the blurred line between good and evil (Mutants vs Agency).
Lonely 13-year-old Cora Hudgens discovers that she has the ability to produce electricity through her skin thus shocking anyone who touches her. At first she is excited about her new found power; she tries to use this ‘power’ for good and live up to her “superhero” fantasy. However, she soon discovers that she can only use the gift to harm people instead of help them. Thinking herself a freak, she runs away from home (she lives with her dad). She first meets Jason playing his guitar on the street for money, where she flips a coin in and he winks at her. At night Cora sets alight a small bonfire in an alley to keep herself warm using her electric touch. Just then she finds herself being shot at by a pair a shady men who happened to see her starting the fire with her touch. However, she escapes with the help of a boy called Jason West who she later befriends and then falls for.
Jason is a Clairvoyant; he can tell anything about a person/ place/ object just by smelling or tasting it. Cora refuses to share much about herself to Jason; she still cannot be sure to trust him. He is desperate to get close enough to kiss (“taste”) her so he can know everything, even though that if he does he will be shocked by her touch. He also helps Cora develop her power into full Pyrokinesis.
He tells her that the men that attacked them are part of a secret government agency specially trained in eliminating all people with telekinetic or telepathic abilities like Cora and Jason. The secret agency claim they are doing it to protect civilians and for the “greater good”, because these “mutants” are criminals (which is somewhat true, Jason is a petty thief) – but really they kill them to keep in power, as the “mutants” are the only people capable of overthrowing them. Jason leads Cora to an underground organization of fellow telepathic and telekinetic people where he promises she’ll be safe. Whilst they are traveling (by subway, they are the only two in the carriage)to get to this underground gang, they are again attacked by a telekinetic man from the Agency. However, they escape (although the train crashes) and decide it is safest if they continue the journey by foot. Once they get there she discovers that they have banded together in an attempt to destroy the government agency, and be free “permanently”. In the gang she befriends Lucy, a girl with the ability to heal anyone’s wound just with her touch. Lucy tells Cora about how The Agency have captured some more powerful mutants and hypnotized them to fight against them like the man on the train. She also learns from the leader, telepathic Owen, that her powers are “a level 5″ (very powerful) and that Jason was only bringing her here under his orders so that she could help defeat “The Agency” and thus she presumes that he does not feel the same love toward her that she feels toward him. So she runs away again, but comes back when she realizes that this is now her home and this way she can finally use her powers for a good cause….
I’ll stop there; if I decide to write it then I don’t want to give away the ending :]
It’s suppose to be for Young Adults by the way
No sh!t Sherlock
I’ve actually never seen Jumper in my life! No joke. I also don’t read x-men comics, just so you guys know that I genuinely thought this was an original.
