What are the pros and cons of clinical hypnosis?

I’m looking into it, by suggestion from my therapist. But I have doubts. I know it doesn’t seem like the same as regular hypnosis – but anyone with first hand experience – is it unpleasant?

How important is it to “know” or have talked a great deal with the therapist who’s doing the hypnosis?

To me, clinical hypnosis provides an indirect channel into a free discussion and release of emotions, especially ones which have been consciously suppressed or unconsciously repressed.

But, I am personally convinced that therapy which is administered while the client is in his most conscious state is the better option.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that hypnosis even exists. It is a myth that is common in the public but dismissed by any psychologist with any credibility. If I were you I would look for another therapist, preferably a clinical psychologist, because the therapist who suggest hypnosis is a quack!!!
