Why don’t psychiatrists want to use hypnotism in people who want to quit smoking?

I have asked general practitioners, therapists, and psychiatrists/psychologists for this…as nothing else has worked. They won’t do it…WHY?

probably b/c they aren’t certified to do hypnosis. you have to be trained by a certified hynotherapist. it is powerful, but you have to find someone who really knows what they’re doing. good luck. i don’t know if it would work for this, but you can also learn self-hypnosis.

    Because it doesn’t work baby!

One reason is that all psychiatrists and psychologists are quacks (in the truest meaning of the word) and as hypnotherapy is a pseudoscience they are unwilling to do it.

Another reason is that there is some evidence that it might work and if they ever cured anyone, they would be out of a job. Take a minute to think about that.

Lastly, there have been some rare and relatively undocumented cases of people having some mental issues post hypnotherapy.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, hypnotherapy generates NO money to the drug companies but eating Nicotine gum or some other drug generates huge revenues for both the Doctor and the drug company, the only person who loses… is you… This and eating gum is no more effective than placebo…

Hope this enlightens you a little.

Feel free to ask your health professional about these issues.

It is a different area of expertise. You have to look for a “clincal hypnotherapist” in your area.
    Note: it may not work!
I went all excited, payed big bucks and it didn’t do anything to me at all. I was sure it will work, my friend on the other hand quit after a few sessions, but me?…nope! I do not know why. What it did do is made me more in touch with my habit as now I undestand more of why I started and other things like that ( there is an extensive interview process first) but that alone did not help me at all. I am more self conscious of it now and even ashamed a bit in some situations, but it didn’t make me quit.

It could be they don’t have the training, and if it doesn’t work you may be able to sue them.
If you want to try hypnosis, I am certain there will be those who will try.
There is also acupuncture to consider.

I think you still have to be truly motivated that you want to quit.

Why don’t medical doctors ever recommend chiropractic care or herbal remedies? It’s all about their mindset. They’re different modalities and, unfortunately, practitioners in one modality don’t always respect the other modalities.

Personally, I’ve been to a “holistic” counselor that used hypnotherapy and it’s great for somethings but may not work on others. Remember, for hypnotism to work you both need to have a practitioner that knows what he or she is doing AND a subject that really wants to implement that change.
